Happy birthday to our darling little Ruth Elaine. What joy she has brought to us this past year! She is at an extra fun stage right now. She toddles all around the house, and enjoys feeling like a “big girl”. The blond fuzzy curls on her head definitely still give her that “baby look”, though! She is always on the lookout for something to eat off of the floor, and loves to throw open her arms and give people bear hugs. It is so cute how she will grab on to my legs to hug me, and especially endearing when I lift her up and she wraps her soft little arms tightly around my neck, and lays her blond curly head on my shoulder. She will often gently kick her legs for sheer joy, or pat me on the back. I don't remember any of my children being quite this affectionate at this age. What a joy she is to us everyday!
Happy 1st birthday, Ruthie! :)
People often comment that we have our hands full. But, we only have one hand full so far. Our FIVE children can be all counted on one hand! :)
The thought of having five children is a really exciting one for us! Five little ones to raise to love the Lord with all their hearts! What a tremendous privilege, and a sobering (and very joyful!) responsibility! To me, five children sounds like “a big family.” :)
The baby is due on Tom's birthday--April 28, 2010, which is about 19 months after Ruthie. So far, the gaps have been 12 months, 15.5 months, and 13 months. 19 months apart feels like a big gap to us!
I'm seven weeks pregnant, and definitely experiencing “morning sickness”, though for me, it usually hits the hardest in the evening.
The children are completely thrilled about this new addition, and talk so much about Baby! They say the cutest things, and ask the funniest questions. When I asked Bethany, “Do you think it is a baby boy or a baby girl? She paused and thought about it, and then said, “It's a baby in Mommy's tummy!” :)
Every few months I try to take the children's pictures individually to give to grandparents and great-grandparents. It is always a big project to try to get a decent photograph of an energetic child! This month we tackled the project once again.
The children LOVE to watch our wedding video, and then act out what they see (they love to copy Daddy and Mommy!). Recently there have been a lot of "weddings" going on! You can imagine Bethany's joy when I showed her a "wedding dress" I had bought for her awhile back at the thrift store (for $2!) that is still way too big on her. It drags on the ground, but she doesn't seem to mind. I simply couldn't resist posing Michael and Bethany for a few pictures in their "wedding clothes". :)
The photos mentioned above (plus many other ones from recent events!) were just added to the summer photo gallery.
It's been over two years since we last did “A Day In Pictures”. I wanted to do one every year, but it just didn't happen last year. This year, we focused on the children's day, rather than Tom's and mine (though of course you see parts of our day, too, as we spend a lot of time with them!).
Special thanks to our secret photographer Rebecca who was trying to pretend like she wasn't there so she could capture an “average day” at our house. :)
You can get to the "Day In Pictures" gallery from the front page of our website, or you can go to the "Photos" tab, and click on Miscellaneous Pictures.
